Advertisers on Mintfunnel can now pay per 1,000 viewable impressions (CPM) as well as per click (CPC). When a CPM campaign's ad shows on your site, you earn your revenue share of what the advertiser pays for it, even if nobody clicks.

Nothing about how you are paid changes. You still earn your revenue share of what advertisers spend on your sites, at the same rate, through the same 24-hour maturation, balance and payouts. That spend now comes from viewable impressions as well as clicks.

What counts as a viewable impression

An impression earns only when at least 50% of the ad's pixels are on screen for at least one continuous second, in a browser tab the reader is actively looking at. Ads in slots nobody scrolls to, in background tabs, or that flash past in a fast scroll do not earn.

Viewability is measured by Mintfunnel's own code, which ships with the ad. Placing widgets where readers actually stop and read is the biggest thing you control.

Only valid impressions earn

Impressions that Mintfunnel identifies as invalid traffic (bots, repeated or replayed views, floods of views from one address or device, and similar) earn nothing, whether or not you caused them, because the advertiser is not charged for them. This is the same rule that already applies to clicks. Your Traffic quality page covers clicks only for now, so filtered impressions are not yet broken out there.

Earnings from impressions are provisional for at least 24 hours while traffic is reviewed, the same as for clicks. If an impression is found to be invalid after its earnings reached your balance, the Mintfunnel Team can reverse the amount or withhold it from a pending or future payout, and your transaction history shows the reason.

Where you see it

  • Earnings leads with RPM: what you earn per 1,000 viewable impressions, from clicks and impressions together. No setup is needed.
  • Analytics, under "Demand for your sites & your share", shows CPM demand · RPM while impression-billed campaigns can serve on your sites: the average CPM bid of those campaigns, already converted to what it is worth to you after your revenue share. It is hidden when fewer than three advertisers are buying, so no single advertiser's bid is exposed.

Setting a minimum CPM on a widget

Each widget has an optional Minimum CPM, next to its Minimum CPC Bid, under Ad Behavior on the widget's edit page. Campaigns that pay per impression show on that widget only if they bid at least that much, and never pay less than it there.

  • Leave it blank to accept every campaign above the platform floor. This usually fills the most slots.
  • Set it if a placement is premium and you would rather show your fallback code than a lower-priced ad.
  • Your Minimum CPC does not apply to impression-billed campaigns, and your Minimum CPM does not apply to per-click campaigns.

The Publisher Terms

The Publisher Terms say that you earn your revenue share whether the advertiser pays per click or per 1,000 viewable impressions, and that invalid clicks and impressions earn nothing. If you are asked to review and accept an updated version of the terms in your publisher dashboard, your earnings, widgets and payouts are not affected while you do.
